Artist Statement

I’m a painter that draws inspiration from fleeting thoughts, (irrational) fears, philosophy, dreams, and disappointments. I look inward to find something I want to say and use art to begin the conversation. I concern myself less with colors or aesthetics and more with the feeling I’m attempting to capture in the piece due to my colorblindness and lack of formal art education.

I constantly think about my own memories, the meaning of beauty, the deterioration of trust, human connection, phobias, obsession, paranoia, and the environment when creating art. All of my art is connected in some way to humans because I think people are an amazing subject and inspiration because we are capable of so much yet so flawed. I use metaphor and suggestion both in the content of my art and the brushstrokes I choose to make. Sometimes I use rough brushstrokes or messy lines to suggest an energy or feeling that isn’t there due to the silent and still nature of paintings.
